2020 Voters Guide

WA State Races

Washington State Legislature

State Senators | An Introduction

Just like the United States Senate, the Washington State Senate is the upper house of the State’s legislative branch. There are 49 Senators and they have a four-year term without term limits.

State Representatives | An Introduction

Mirroring the Federal government, the State House of Representatives is the lower house of the State legislative branch. There are 98 Representatives with two from each of the State’s 49 districts. The terms are 2 years long with no term limit. Like State Senators, State Representatives may hold full time jobs outside of their elected positions.

To determine which legislative districts to cover in this Voters Guide, the Governmental Affairs & Special Projects team worked with the Tribe’s GIS team to determine which 3 legislative districts the most Tribal Members live in (Districts 5, 38, & 39). In the 2012 and 2016 Voters Guides only District 5 was included so we are excited to now include two additional Districts!
